Development of a 1D/2D Urban Flood Model Using the Open-Source Models SWMM and MOHID Land

Urban pluvial floods are the outcome of incapacity drainage systems to convey runoff generated by intense rainfall events. Cities have been struggling control such hazards due several pressures, as urbanization increase, more frequent experiences extreme events, and increases in tide levels. Such pressures demand study adaptation strategies, which conventional one-dimensional models fall short simulating. Thus, 1D/2D emerging with aim allowing better integration key processes for flood modeling, namely, interception stormwater inlet devices manhole overflows. The current paper presents a urban model based on an offline coupling procedure between 1D SWMM 2D MOHID Land. SWMM/Land is applied synthetic street case real downtown Albufeira, Portugal. results obtained coherent local observations past flooding shows potential decision-making regarding risk management.
